SoftX Technology » Designed to increase patient compliance, patent-pending SoftX Technology makes exhalation more comfortable for users by reducing the duration of pressure spikes during exhalation. Most conventional CPAPs use a variable speed blower to provide flow at a constant pressure. To maintain this pressure, the CPAP blower must rapidly increase or decrease its speed relative to changes in the user's inspiratory or expiratory flow. However, changes in blower speed may not occur rapidly enough to maintain a constant mask pressure, resulting in pressure swings. These pressure swings can contribute to user discomfort during exhalation.
SoftX Technology uses an active, variable resistance valve and a constant speed blower to significantly enhance response time and reduce pressure swings. Changes in valve position divert air away from the user during exhalation and direct air towards the user during inhalation. Discomfort during exhalation is reduced, not by lowering the expiratory pressure below the prescribed level, but by decreasing the duration of the pressure spike. This approach promotes stability of the upper airway before the next inhalation. The end result is increased user comfort, which can lead to better compliance.
Quick Code Compliance Data » The Polaris EX Quick Code feature affords providers immediate access to compliance information without the need for a patient visit or tracking items in the mail. Studies show that intervention to a patient's usage pattern should occur early in the treatment process to ensure maximum patient benefit. To facilitate this, the Polaris EX generates a 9-digit code that can be expressed to the provider via telephone or voicemail at any hour.
Usage can be tracked from the very first day of treatment and can accumulate for over seven years, or be easily reset to track a specified period of time. If a hard copy report is desired, a template is available on the Invacare website (www.invacare.com). Simply type in the 9-digit code and start date to generate a one-page summary report. No additional hardware or software is required! The Quick Code provides objective data that identifies patients in need of intervention before their non-compliant habits are formed. |
